Once your greenhouse structure building is finished, then it’s time for planning the greenhouse interior. The two most important items are plant benches and storage areas. Properly planned storage and sturdy, well-placed benches can make your greenhouse gardening much more enjoyable.

Greenhouse benches are table-like structures placed around the interior perimeter of the house at about counter height. They are used to hold plants, propagation trays, and seed flats. Bench tops are usually constructed with regularly spaced openings that allow air to circulate freely around the plants and their containers. Benches are frequently made of wooden slats or lath, either redwood or cedar. If other woods are used, they must be treated with a preservative to prevent damage from moisture and insects. Some benches have wooden frames with wire or hardware cloth coverings. Occasionally bench frames or legs are made of metal.
